How To Build Your Construction Business with Branded Banners

February 28, 2022 / in Blog / by Mesh Direct / No Comments

With the right artwork, branded banners have the ability to build your construction business and drive clients to commission jobs with your company. But how can printed signage contribute to your business’ growth and sales? We’ve got a number of tips you can use when it comes to getting the most from your branded banners.

1. Utilise advertising space

The beauty of branded banners, temporary fencing and hoarding is that they provide you with advertising space that’s either rarely or never utilised. These options give developers what would essentially be blank canvases and turn them into an opportunity for them to promote their business.

These areas are usually in high traffic zones, which are exposed to numerous people on a daily basis. Therefore, signage solutions like branded banners help get your business name and services out in front of a new audience, and potentially new clients.

Creating awareness for your brand is half the battle when it comes to attaining new, ongoing clients. Utilising advertising space on your existing construction and development sites is a great way to get your business out there.

2. Create a professional aesthetic

Whether we like it or not, we all judge the packaging of a product, and in the case of your construction business the packaging is the signage and fencing options you choose.

By opting for branded banners when it comes to your temporary fencing, it creates a professional and uniform look across the scope of your development, in addition to utilising any otherwise overlooked advertising space.

Creating a professional aesthetic provides your brand with social proof – it instantly looks more reputable, and provides a much stronger first impression to potential clients.

3. Opt for a range of signage products

Here at Mesh Direct, branded banners are just the beginning when it comes to our signage solutions. We offer a range of different mesh substrates for branded banners, but we also provide our clients with numerous other products, including: corflute, vinyl hoarding, alupanel signage, wind mesh and nature screens to name a few.

A range of different branded signage solutions in addition to your banners will help you achieve that uniform look and utilised all that overlooked advertising space. It will also ensure that your construction site is adequately adhering to safety signage requirements.

Why OHS procedures on the worksite are more important than ever

February 21, 2022 / in Blog / by Mesh Direct / No Comments

In the wake of two building site accidents last week during Sydney’s wild wind storms, the importance of OHS procedures on a worksite can’t be stressed enough.

Winds of up to 104 kilometres per hour were recorded, causing catastrophic damage across the city, including two separate incidents where walls fell down in construction sites, injuring one worker and tragically killing another. The accidents serve as a reminder to all of us in the building industry, just how vital it is that we put in place and adhere to the correct OHS procedures.

If you’re responsible for a construction or development site, you need to be sure that your knowledge of work health and safety duties is up to scratch. You need to be aware of the most common worksite injuries that occur (cuts and open wounds, sprains and strains and chronic joint or muscle conditions). It’s also your responsibility to assess the work health and safety risks, and that the appropriate precautions are taken to avoid injury to your workers.

All the workers on your site also need to have completed an introductory safety training course called ‘general construction induction training’. This is also commonly known among people in the industry as ‘white card’ training. Ensuring your workers have this certification is also your responsibility as it ensures that they know how to react in particular situations where there are risks to injury.

This of course, is just the tip of iceberg when it comes to the Australian work health and safety standards. For more detailed information on specific guidelines and requirements, as well as specific case studies, visit the Safe Work Australia website here.

If you’re looking for some handy advice, Work Safe Victoria has put together a useful checklist for builders and building trades contractors to help assess the adequacy of health, safety and amenities on new construction sites. You can find the checklist here.

Once you’ve got your knowledge about the standards and requirements under control, you should be considering options for health and safety signage throughout your construction or development site.

Here at Mesh Direct, we’re passionate about ensuring that the workers in our industry are as safe and protected as possible. Which is why we also offer a range of products that can be utilised for safety and directional signage throughout your construction site.

Our corflute signage is ideal for these kinds of signs, it’s also referred to as corrugated plastic signage or corriboard and is a rigid, flat substrate which is highly versatile. It can be applied virtually anywhere and is easy to install on any structure including walls, fences and hoarding.

The Search for Your Signage Solution: Where to Begin

August 14, 2017 / in Blog / by Mesh Direct / No Comments

As experts in grand format printing, we’re well aware that the search for your signage solution can be a daunting one. There are always numerous factors to consider in terms of your construction or development site alone. As a developer you need to consider environmental factors as well as the safety of your workers.

If you’re looking for branded signage, the chances are that you also have an addition goal in mind for your mesh banners and temporary fencing, and so this goal needs considering. Finally, you’ll also need to have a solid grasp on the budget that’s available to you, and what the best options are for the amount you’ve designated.

So with these details in mind, let’s delve a little deeper into each of them, and see how you can use the knowledge to find the perfect signage solution for you and your business.

1. Assess your construction site

Before you decide on any specific signage options you first need to assess your construction or development site. One of the first things we ask our potential clients is about the predicted wind load of the site.

The wind factor is a crucial aspect of the site to consider when searching for mesh banners and signage options. If your site is located in a high wind area, you’ll need to opt for wind mesh, which is especially created to withstand large wind loads. Other signage options don’t hold up as well in windy conditions as they don’t have the correct perforation.

There are plenty of other factors to consider, such as is your site outdoors or indoors? How large is your site? For example, if it’s a large-scale development, you may need something like a building wrap rather than simple temp fencing. You also need to be asking yourself about safety hazards and whether or not you’re required to have safety signage posted throughout your site for your workers. Perhaps you’ll need directional signage as well.

Sit down with your project manager and list down these aspects of your site.

2. Determine the goal of your signage

In order to get impressive results for your company, you’ll need to be specific when determining the goals you’re aiming for. Do you want your business to gain more exposure, are you aiming for a certain number of new leads? Do you want to advertise a particular event or business?

These are all questions you will need to answer in order for us to help you select the right signage option. For the best print resolution, we’d recommend opting for our premium banner mesh, however if you’re looking for more basic temporary fencing where the print quality isn’t paramount, printed shade cloth or “scrim” is another option.

Knowing the purpose and goal of your signage will make the search for the perfect solution all the more simple.

3. Know your budget

The final factor to consider before delving into the various signage products available is your budget. Grand format printing doesn’t have to be a bank-breaking exercise, particularly if you know your budget from the get-go.

There are numerous options here at Mesh Direct that are great for businesses who need to be on the conservative side of pricing. We’d never compromise on quality, so you can rest assured that our budget-friendly products such as standard banner mesh and partial printed shade cloth are still held to the highest standard.

How To Revamp Your Construction Business HQ

July 26, 2017 / in Blog / by Mesh Direct / No Comments

While our main point of focus here at Mesh Direct is the presentation of your construction site itself, we’re also aware that many businesses have offices and HQs to concern themselves with as well. This is the hub of your construction business, the place where you might meet with clients and potential contractors and new employees. You want your office to represent your company well, and make a strong and impressive first impression.

Many of us in the construction industry aren’t too familiar with the world of interior design and aesthetics beyond the basics, which is why we’re put together this quick guide on how to revamp your construction business HQ…

1. Use Luxe Walls‘ wallpaper

If you’re looking for a way to breathe new life into your tired office or workspace, Luxe Walls offers a great solution – removable wallpaper. Our friends over at Luxe Walls offer repositionable and removable wallpaper at an affordable price for those on a budget.

The best thing about their product is that it’s 100% customisable, so you can create any artwork you like and showcase it in your office. Finally, another benefit of using Luxe Walls to revamp your office is the fact that their Canvas Wallpaper is 100% is removable, so you can update it whenever you like. You can check out their most popular designs here.

2. Use plants

One thing that’s regularly missing from the construction HQs and offices we visit is greenery. It’s amazing just how much of a difference one or two little plants can make to an otherwise drab space.

In fact, at the Mesh Direct office, we have a range of hanging vine plants that are suspended from the timber beams throughout the space. It adds a certain level of brightness and life to the space!

Adding plants to your construction business HQ is a simple and affordable way of sprucing up a tired space.

3. Get rid of clutter

There’s nothing worse than an office filled with unnecessary clutter. In our experience, much of this clutter is from documents and files that need to be organised and stored away appropriately. Nowadays, much of our paperwork is digitised, however we do on occasion need printed documents. Be sure that you’ve got an adequate filing system in place and it’s half the battle to a revamped workspace.

You’ll be amazed at how different an office can look without clutter.

Printed Shade Cloth/Scrim

Printed Shade Cloth: Your Budget Friendly Solution

July 17, 2017 / in Blog / by Mesh Direct / No Comments

This post delves into the affordable and practical nature of Printed Shade Cloth at Mesh Direct.

When it comes to creating effective printed signage, most businesses have one thing in common: budgets. Unfortunately, budgets rule the majority of our business decisions, including what we’re able to print!

Luckily, Mesh Direct offers plenty of options for printed shade cloth and printed signage for those who need to be a little conservative with their purse strings. Printed shade cloth, otherwise known as ‘scrim’ is an affordable and useful option for small and large businesses alike.

Most commonly used in the construction industry to cover temporary fencing around unsightly development sites, printed shade cloth has a number of benefits for just a fraction of the price of its more premium counterparts.

Our printed shade cloth is crafted from a permeable substrate, making it the ideal solution for your advertising and branding needs while on a budget. It’s built to withstand the harsh Australian weather as well, and allows large wind loads to flow through with ease.

We always we recommend that our clients make the most of the advertising opportunity that comes with any temporary fence covering by printing their business logo or details onto the printed shade cloth. The print reproduction is good quality, and makes for a welcome distraction and an impressive branding option when it comes to revamping your temporary or permanent fencing around a site.

As we’re all about budgets meeting practicality, and ensuring that our customers are always 100% satisfied, we offer numerous shade cloth options: unprinted, partially printed or fully printed shade cloth in lengths of 50 metre rolls.

Mesh Direct’s printed shade cloth is crafted from knitted monofilament polythene, making it durable and only has a stretch factor of around 2-3%. This ensures that your sign won’t droop over time after your installation. With a density of 70%, our shade cloth boasts a great print quality, that doesn’t lose the benefits of its substrate permeability and its wind load versatility.

This type of material is generally used in longer runs where there isn’t much room for wind forces to escape.

to handle wind. Shade cloth is most commonly used in longer runs where there is not much room for wind forces to escape. This isn’t a problem as our printed shade cloth is well suited to windy areas.

Mesh Direct has a great logistics network and therefore can produce large orders of shade cloth and can usually guarantee the delivery of your banners within 10 days from the date of payment confirmation and/or artwork approval. All of our shade cloth banners, both printed and unprinted are only available in 50 metre rolls with a minimum order of 2 rolls.

Identifying the Right Material for Your Banner

July 03, 2017 / in Blog / by Mesh Direct / No Comments

When it comes to mesh banners and printed signage options, identifying the right material for your banner can be challenging. Often the sheer volume of choices available out there can seem overwhelming, especially when you’re not familiar with the finer details.

But as always, here at Mesh Direct we’ve got your bases covered. Let’s take a closer look at the different types of banner material, so you can work out what’s right for you and your business…

1. Premium Banner Mesh

The name gives much of it away, but our premium banner mesh is the highest quality material we offer. It boasts an incredible sharp print resolution, ensuring that logos and business artwork always look their best. We use UV stabilised inks to print and PVC coated polyester for the best durability.

Our premium banner mesh option has tested fire retardant properties as well as a full CSIRO wind rating. It also has a GSM of 270 and a thread count of 12 per inch. This is the highest thread count mesh we offer, making it the best for print reproduction.

2. Standard Banner Mesh

Our standard banner mesh has a GSM of 200 and is the next best option in terms of print resolution after premium banner mesh. Standard is a particularly good choice for those who are on a tighter budget but still want a high quality, durable result.

The print quality of standard mesh is still incredibly high, making it perfect for your logo, business information and artwork. Standard has a thread count of 9 threads per inch rather than premium’s 12 threads.

It’s worth noting that due to the fewer threads, the print reproduction and quality is not as perfect as the premium banner mesh option. However, standard is still a perfectly good signage solution for businesses large and small.

3. Wind Mesh

Wind mesh is one of our most versatile signage solutions as it’s carefully made to withstand large wind loads as well as that typically harsh Australian climate. Wind mesh is designed with an open weave and perforated material so that high wind loads can travel through without damaging or knocking over the fence. It can be applied in many different scenarios including scaffolding, temporary fences,  and between fence poles, which allows for many great advertising opportunities and allows for visually appealing worksites.

The coated substrate allows the ink to be very well absorbed and all of our fencing mesh banners use a fully UV stabilised printing process through large 5 metre printers. This enables long lasting, highly detailed finished products.

4. Shade Cloth

If you’re on a super tight budget, then printed shade cloth or “scrim” might be the solution for you. This is an incredibly affordable option for those looking for a budget-friendly alternative to premium or standard mesh.

Crafted from a permeable substrate, our shade cloth is a practical advertising tool in the harsh Australian conditions and allows large wind loads to pass through the material with ease, which means there are low risk loads on the structure it is attached to.

The printing options allow for your business logo, various colour schemes and fonts to enhance visibility and attractiveness. However, the print reproduction isn’t as perfect as with standard or premium banner mesh due to the lower thread count and perforated design.

5. Other printed signage options

Of course, if after reading this you’ve decided that none of these materials are right for your banner or signage needs, there are plenty more options to choose from. At Mesh Direct we have a range of alternative (and complementary) products such as vinyl hoarding, corflute signage, building wraps, jump form signage, alupanel signage and much more.

If you’d like assistance with identifying which banner material is right for you, give us a call on 1300 368 978.

How To Guide: Banner Care and Maintenance

June 19, 2017 / in Blog / by Mesh Direct / No Comments

We’re passionate about premium mesh banner products and signage solutions. However, in order for any of your mesh banners to stand the test of time, you need to be aware of how to care for them correctly. That’s why we’ve put together this handy how-to guide on banner care and maintenance. This way, you can be sure that your banners will last for years to come.

1. Use the right product

The first thing you’ll need to be aware of when it comes to banner care and maintenance is ensuring that you’ve purchases the correct product to begin with. For example, if your building site is in a high wind area, you need to be aware of this, and opt for wind mesh – mesh that is specifically designed to withstand the elements.

Using the correct product is half the battle of ensuring that your mesh banner stands the test of time, and continues to look impressive.

2. Store your banner correctly

Banners should always be rolled up for storage as opposed to folded or scrunched up. Folding or scrunching can create lines and creases which are hard to remove and can affect the overall look of your banner when you go to reinstall it.

You also need to be sure that all your signage solutions, including any printed banners, are dry before you pack them away for storage. Leaving banners damp or wet can cause the product to go mouldy, which will possibly render it un-useable next time.

3. Clean your banner

Naturally, over the course of its lifetime, your banner may be exposed to dirt at one time or another. To clean any dirt away, use a damp cloth to gently wipe it down, with no cleaning products. If you find that you do need a little more than elbow grease, use a very mild soap and water combination. By no means should you use chemical based or bleach products as these will damage the print of your banner.

What Is Full Print and Partial Printed Shade Cloth?

June 05, 2017 / in Blog / by Mesh Direct / No Comments

Here at Mesh Direct, we understand that the terminology associated with grand format printing can get confusing. With such a vast range of printed banners and signage solutions available, it’s no wonder the options seem overwhelming at times. One of the questions we receive most often from our clients is “what is full print and partial printed shade cloth?”.

With over ten years experience in the print and construction industries, we’ve developed printing options for all types of businesses and their needs, which is where the full print and partial printed shade cloth varieties come in. So let’s explore what these options entail…

Shade cloth

Both partial printed shade cloth and full print shade cloth are created from the same durable, premium quality materials. Our shade cloth meets all necessary building standards and uses fully UV stabilised inks for non-fade printing, no matter what type of shade cloth you opt for.

Our product has 70% light reductio as well as knotted monofilament, high-density polyethylene which provides strength and durability. Our shade cloth is crafted from 170 GSM for easy handling and uses reinforced knotted, ‘button-hole’ eyelets at both the top and bottom of the material for great stability.

But now let’s go into a bit more detail in terms of the differences between full print and partial printed shade cloth…

Partial printed shade cloth

Partial printed shade cloth is a great option for those who are looking to showcase their logo and business details in an understated way on their construction site.

When it come to partial printed shade cloth, the artwork is printed on a white background (no more than 50% of the shade cloth is printed on). This option is perfect for displaying a looped logo across a range of fences, or your business details like website and phone number.

Because it’s a smaller print job, the partial printed shade cloth is the more budget-friendly option for those who face financial constraints.

Full printed shade cloth

Full printed shade cloth is just what it sounds like – where the entirety of the shade cloth is printed on in full. This option is fantastic for making a high-impact impression on passersby, or to create an overall uniform aesthetic for events like festivals.

Naturally as this is a bigger print job, full printed shade cloth has a higher price point, however Mesh Direct ensures that all its prices are competitive and affordable for both large and small businesses alike.

Still making up your mind?

We’ve seen both options make valuable and high-converting contributions to many a job site, and whether you go full or partial printed shade cloth, the print resolution is always incredible.

Shade cloth is ideal for long run sites, and is always easily installed with cable ties.

Wanted to know more about how shade cloth can take your construction or development site to the next level? Be sure to contact us here, or give us a call on 1300 368 978.

How Does Advertising With Printed Banners Get Results For Your Company?

May 22, 2017 / in Blog / by Mesh Direct / No Comments

Here at Mesh Direct we get a lot of questions about the benefits of advertising with printed banners and the potential results they can garner for various companies.

The fact of the matter is that using printed banners and a diverse range of signage solutions across your festival, event or construction site can have a fantastic result for your brand recognition and in turn, your sales and revenue.

So what exactly are these benefits?

1. Provides brand recognition

First and foremost, printed banners and signage solutions provide you and your business with brand recognition. This means that your clients and potential clients will be exposed to your logo, your brand aesthetic and will start to form a connection with your company. People will become more aware of what your company does, and who’s behind it.

Of course, in order to benefit from brand recognition, you must have recognisable, professional branding. We understand that not every business owner is a designer or art department, which is why we do our best to provide guidance and services to help your visual branding reach its potential.

With more brand recognition comes more trust in your business, and therefore – more sales.

2. Can advertise a specific product

Printed banners do more than create great brand recognition, they also provide the opportunity to advertise specific products. Printed banners, particularly our own premium and standard banner mesh have fantastic print quality and resolution, which makes them ideal for advertising your products on.

A great example of this is the iconic ice-cream brand Ben & Jerry’s. This company used banner mesh around the popular Open Air Cinema in Bondi to advertise their brand and their new product range.

Creating awareness for a new product, or a classic favourite puts the product in the forefront of consumers’ minds and therefore increases the likelihood that they’ll purchase it – driving your sales upwards.

3. Hides unsightly construction sites

The nature of the construction business means that building sites are often a bit of an eyesore. Scaffolding, equipment and general untidiness often come as part of the deal, and they can detract from their surroundings. However, if you use printed banners around your perimeter fencing and scaffolding, you can breathe new life into these tired construction sites.

Enjoy the benefit of making your brand and your building site look good, while simultaneously advertising your products and/or services.
