How To Guide: Banner Care and Maintenance

June 19, 2017 / in Blog / by Mesh Direct / No Comments

We’re passionate about premium mesh banner products and signage solutions. However, in order for any of your mesh banners to stand the test of time, you need to be aware of how to care for them correctly. That’s why we’ve put together this handy how-to guide on banner care and maintenance. This way, you can be sure that your banners will last for years to come.

1. Use the right product

The first thing you’ll need to be aware of when it comes to banner care and maintenance is ensuring that you’ve purchases the correct product to begin with. For example, if your building site is in a high wind area, you need to be aware of this, and opt for wind mesh – mesh that is specifically designed to withstand the elements.

Using the correct product is half the battle of ensuring that your mesh banner stands the test of time, and continues to look impressive.

2. Store your banner correctly

Banners should always be rolled up for storage as opposed to folded or scrunched up. Folding or scrunching can create lines and creases which are hard to remove and can affect the overall look of your banner when you go to reinstall it.

You also need to be sure that all your signage solutions, including any printed banners, are dry before you pack them away for storage. Leaving banners damp or wet can cause the product to go mouldy, which will possibly render it un-useable next time.

3. Clean your banner

Naturally, over the course of its lifetime, your banner may be exposed to dirt at one time or another. To clean any dirt away, use a damp cloth to gently wipe it down, with no cleaning products. If you find that you do need a little more than elbow grease, use a very mild soap and water combination. By no means should you use chemical based or bleach products as these will damage the print of your banner.

Printed Banner Mesh: Ultimate Guide To Common Terms

March 15, 2017 / in Blog / by Mesh Direct / No Comments

When it comes to the utilising printed banner mesh in your construction business, the terminology and vernacular might take some getting used to. Which is why we’ve put together an ultimate guide to common terms used in the world of signage, mesh banners and shade cloth.

Banner mesh

If you’ve been considering the fencing around your construction site, you’ve probably heard the term ‘banner mesh’. Banner mesh is the material that covers a construction site fence. If a business is utilising it effectively, it often features branding, a logo and the business’ details.

Banner mesh is an incredibly effective way to increase your brand awareness, and is a great way to create uniformity across a construction or festival site. Our mesh is sold in an array of lengths and can also be purchased in individual fence panels. For more information on panels of mesh, visit our banner mesh fence panels page.

Banner mesh is a general term that encompasses three different types of mesh: premium banner mesh, standard banner mesh and wind mesh.

Premium banner mesh

As the name suggests, premium printed banner mesh is a type of banner mesh. Of our products, this is generally the most sought-after, as it’s highly durable and versatile. It’s also the banner mesh that provides the most stunning print results, while still allowing for that all-important wind flow.

This style of mesh fencing boasts PVC coated substrate which ensures that the ink from your print job is adequately absorbed, as well as provided UV protection.

Standard banner mesh

Standard banner mesh is our mid range fencing product. For those businesses on a tighter budget, this may be a more affordable than our premium option. While the print quality isn’t as good, it still offers an excellent structure, uniform look and print quality.

This product is incredibly easy to install, using simple cable ties and metal eyelets, making it a great temporary fencing solution for any event or construction site.

Wind mesh

Wind mesh is the final product in our printed banner mesh collection. It’s a product that’s specially made to withstand large wind loads and the harsh Australian climate.

This printed banner mesh is designed with a much more open weave, with perforated material that allows more wind to flow through the mesh. This puts less load and pressure on the structure to which it’s attached, making it and ideal solution for high-wind areas and construction sites. The fact that it’s a more perforated product means that the print quality isn’t as high as our premium banner mesh, however it still provides a professional finish.

Wind flow

When working out which printed mesh banner product is right for you, you may be asked to consider what the wind flow is like in your designated area.

Wind can have a major impact on how durable your mesh fencing is, and so if you’re planning on installing in a high wind area, you’ll need to opt for wind mesh, which as we mentioned above, has a more open weaved designed for this type of environment.

Building wraps

If you’re in the business of large scale developments, you may have come across the term ‘building wraps’, you may have even seen one for yourself.

Building wraps are extremely popular in Europe and America, particularly when it comes to landmarks undergoing maintenance or construction.

Traditionally, these wrap around the entire facade of the building, with a rendition of the building underneath. Alternatively, other companies opt for cityscapes, nature scenes, while some use it as an advertising platform for their brand.

Jump form signage

Another product in our large scale development arsenal, jump form signage is a great signage option to utilise throughout the building process. This is one of the first structures to go in place on the construction site, and progresses up the building as the scaffolding and building grows. It’s a super effective form of advertising due the high visibility of high rises and the long-term nature of the projects.

As the building grows, so does the scope for advertising and the potential for your brand to reach a larger audience.

Another advantage is that it not being situated on street level it is virtually vandal proof.

Vinyl hoarding banners

If you’ve got a thicker fence that’s more solid than a chain link fence, vinyl hoarding banners are the solution. These banners are attached to wood hoardings made from wood panel, this creates a strong surface, and provides an ideal background to allow for premium quality print on non-permeable signage.

This is a well-regarded option for urban areas, and is often used within shopping centres. It’s also ideal for crowd control in both large and small scale events.

Vinyl hoarding is so aesthetically pleasing that the Sydney City Council enforced that all hoardings be dressed with vinyl.

Alupanel signage

Alupanel signage is fast becoming one of the most popular methods of signage around the globe. This is made from a hard-core substrate that is used for permanent installations such as building signage, advertising and shop fronts.

It’s got an outstanding print reproduction and quality, and is ideal for long-term solutions. The alupanels hold resistance properties that make it incredibly suitable for outdoors. It’s chemically resistant, rustproof and waterproof, and is a relatively light-weight option, making it easy to install.

Shade cloth

Shade cloth is one of the most commonly used banner products used, and is incredibly versatile. Also known as ‘scrim’, it can be sold as plain (unprinted), partially printed or fully printed to suit your needs.

It can be completely customised to suit scaffolds, temporary fences, chain wire fences and building facades. It’s an adaptable and budget-friendly option for everything from construction sites to music festival fencing.

Mesh fence panels

Using printed banner mesh in fence panels, this product is perfect for temporary fencing on construction sites. Mesh fence panels provide a great amount of flexibility on site, and can be moved around easily as your construction site grows.

This type of mesh is also very aesthetically appealing, and makes any site look uniform and professional.

Corflute signage

Corflute signage is also often called corrugated plastic signage or corriboard. It’s a flat, rigid substrate that’s especially versatile. It can be used practically anywhere and is extremely easy to install on just about anything including walls, fences and hoarding.

At Mesh Direct, our corflute signage is fully UV stabilised and can last for years with the proper care. We use only the highest quality inks available and our corflute signage is printed directly onto substrate on 3mm or 5mm thick bases.

Tips on Building Your Construction Business With Branded Banners

October 15, 2016 / in Blog / by Mesh Direct / No Comments

Construction signage serves as a direct network to your company and potential clients, as well as, provides information on your building sites. Branded banners have an extensive range of capabilities to meet your construction signage needs which includes higher advertising recall and delivers greater advertising impact. There are a few things you need to consider when it comes to branded banners for great results:

Choosing the Right Materials:Premium Banner Mesh: There are quite a few options available when choosing the right banner material. Premium banner mesh has a tight dense weave and has great print reproduction. It is a really strong product when you want to advertise very specific picture and sales messages. It has super tough  edging and a nylon welded backing, so you get supreme strength in high wind areas or building sites which tend to be a bit rough and tumble.

Shade Cloth (Fence Scrim): If not banner mesh, shade cloth (scrim) are commonly chosen as it is the cheapest entry level product, although, it is still quite tough. It’s very open weaved, designed for high wind areas, perfect for construction sites where you will need long runs of it and makes for an easy installation. Unlike banner mesh, shade cloth doesn’t have an excellent print reproduction so it’s not suitable for great detail, however, simple logos and colour will still look effective.

Vinyl: By far the best material for print reproduction is Vinyl. Ink adheres fantastically to it, giving it that great punch of colour and certainly fantastic for detail and large amounts of information about your site. An example would be hoardings around your building site that require your own branding or some information, this is exactly what you would use, when wind flow is not necessarily a factor. You could also apply anti graffiti to this product; so you are obviously going to be generating a significant longevity to this product. Life expectancy is about 2 years with the right installation and the right lamination and anti graffiti, all of which leaves your signage looking professional and last longer.

  • Presentation of Your Banner: As a powerful tool for advertising, the design you choose for your banner gives your company an identity and personality, impacting your target audience. Colours make the biggest impact for your banner as they reach each evoke different feelings. Making sure you have the right colours to represent your brand is crucial. Along with other features, like necessary information for potential clients to get into connect with you. It is also important to make sure your banner has white space, as cluttered banners become unclear and look unprofessional. Whether you want your banner design to be a collection of multiple colour panels or photographs, they all need to work well together in order to construct a design which creates energy, professionalism, and lends you credibility on a whole. Uniqueness is the main point of focus, as viewers will recognise you by your branding, therefore enhance your reputation.
  • Placement and Size: When thinking of the placement of your signs, visibility from inside and around the site needs to be taken into account. In order for communication to flow between your company and consumers, larger banners are preferable; especially if the information you are providing is complex. gathering the right dimensions for where your signs needs to be placed is critical; if you place a banner that is too large or too small on your site it will not get the recognition it deserves and makes your business look disorderly.
  • Keep it Consistent: Where you can display your banners, do it. Having large, long runs along with construction sites is best, as it repeats your logo and information provided, therefore becoming more memorable to the people viewing it. A strong and consistent brand reinforces your identity and gives the impression of trust and confidence.
  • Building Wraps: Building wraps are highly versatile and when used for construction media they deliver a purpose of minimising attention to the surrounding environment, concealing and disguising construction words. With your creative graphics and vibrant colour selection, the public’s eye cannot help but to be drawn to the advertisement, therefore, initiating promotion for your company. All of which helps to reinforce your brand and establish potential customers who may not have been aware that your company or new product pr service exists. Wraps that transform ordinary brick walls into eye catching statements are a great long term investment, as each advertisement will be directed towards a different market. Hence targeting almost every demographic, giving all companies a marketing benefit. They are also cost effective as well as helping protect the frame from external forces such as weather.

Design 101: Advice on How to Choose Your Banner Design

October 01, 2016 / in Blog / by Mesh Direct / No Comments

The beauty and visual appearance of your banner is of the utmost importance. It’s the first thing the customer will notice and it needs to be able to draw them in. With banner design graphics can be a tricky tool to advertise with, too much and the message you’re trying to convey will be lost in the effects, too little and it’s not worth noticing in the first place. Key thing to remember is that the one or two key elements are necessary to grab attention at first glance and always keep in mind the position of your banners.

Fonts

A huge emphasis should be placed on the font you use. The typeface needs to be able to stand out and be eligible form a distance. It is recommended to choose two fonts from the same family e.g. Sans-serif family. Clear fonts should be used for the body text and more italic/fancy fonts should be used for headings.

Colour

When thinking about banner design it is important to use high contrast colours between background and letters. Meaning 1 to 3 primary colours and an additional secondary colour, or vice versa, will compliment each other nicely. Finer type faces need stronger colours to balance them out. Contrast in the perfect effect to emphasise mood within your target audience. e.g.  A bright tone background means dark lettering. A common mistake is using too many colours for fonts or blocks of colour for paragraphs, used to highlight certain points. However, instead of highlighting this message, it gets lost in the colour and viewers become disinterested quickly.

Layout and Whitespace

‘Clean banners are more likely to attract readers then bundles of colour.’ – Do not underestimate the use of white space and abuse of colour. When creating your banner use margins or grids to ensure the fluidity of graphics but let them stand out to readers with shite space- it is made to effectively highlight points or images and will do so justly. But like colour, the overuse of white space can be a mistake. Not presenting enough information or design will also lose the attention of readers and not give your brand the recognition it deserves.

Content

The content of the banner is just as important. It is where you will be representing your brand with a few short sentences and contact information. Consumers shouldn’t have to stand there and read paragraph after paragraph; it is an information overload and effects the visual presentation as well. Keeping it simples with a few key points, possibly even being divided into small sections.

Consistency

Consistency is key. the layout of your banner needs to keep consistency for aesthetic purposes and also to keep it interesting enough that people will stop and read it. Using the same colour patterns, fonts, and grid layout is a fantastic way to ensure consumers will pick up on important elements and grasp the concept of what your business is about.

Printed Shade Cloth: Where Budgeting Meets Practicality

September 15, 2016 / in Blog / by Mesh Direct / No Comments

If your are looking for a marketing solution that doesn’t break the bank but also ensures high impact results look no further than printed shade cloth or otherwise referred to as ‘scrim’. Shade Cloth is the most basic form of the mesh banner range and although it isn’t the leading product of its kind it is still highly valuable marketing tool for many businesses.

Practicality

Not only is it budget friendly it is highly practical as it is a permeable substrate that allowed wind to pass through easily, creating light loads on the structure to which it is attached. It can be fixed to temporary fencing via cable ties which makes the installation process quick and easy. Shade Cloth can be installed on scaffold, temporary fences, chain wire fences and, as well, as building facades to ensure your brand messages have excellent exposure and are customised to your site. Shade Cloth is perfectly suited for the Australian sun and the sometimes harsh weather conditions that we are so used to. It complies with all OH&S requirements under the relevant building codes and uses fully UV stabilised inks and substrates, ensuring that your sign will last and not fade for at least 12 months.

Printed shade cloth can incorporate your business logo, colour schemes and fonts and it is because of this shade cloth is a very popular method of construction site advertising, or scaffold branding, although it is also often seen at music festivals, sporting events, retail sites, community and school locations and large-scale events of all types. It is perfect for long runs and is usually sold in lengths of 50 metres. It is durable and only has a stretching factor of around 2-3% ensuring the sign will not droop over time after installation. As shade cloth is typically used in longer runs, without areas for wind forces to escape, it is ideal in high wind areas.
